A sculptural meditation on memory, motherhood and the stillness of things.
The fourth in the Ashmolean NOW exhibition series, where contemporary artists are invited to create new work inspired by the Ashmolean’s historical collections, Daphne Wright’s sculptures offer a quietly powerful meditation on domesticity, memory and the passage of time.
The exhibition centres on a new life-size sculpture titled Sons and Couch, which captures Wright’s two sons as young men reclining on a sofa. Her longstanding fascination with still life and casting is further explored in Fridge Still Life, a previously unseen work, shown alongside pieces from the Ashmolean’s own collection.
