New film installation that probes the looming threat of deep-sea mining.
Step into the depths of the ocean in Soundings, a new three-screen video and sound installation by artist and filmmaker Emma Critchley. Drawing on diverse footage, soundscapes and movement, Soundings explores the deep sea as a site of ecological urgency and geopolitical tension. From filmed encounters between dancer and deep-sea creature to the recorded voices of Pacific activists, Critchley constructs a richly layered portrait of a world few have seen.
Also included is Rights of the Deep, a compelling open letter co-authored by marine scientists, legal scholars and Indigenous leaders calling for the protection of this fragile, vital ecosystem.
