Explore how Renaissance artists used coloured paper to play with light and depth in their drawings
This exhibition will explore how Renaissance artists used coloured paper to give their drawings more spatial depth: from preparing their papers with pastel-coloured chalk grounds to the readily produced blue paper (carta azzurra), made famous by artists in Venice.
The drawings have been selected from the renowned Christ Church collection, including works by Tintoretto, Bassano, Bronzino, and others who expressed their playfulness on coloured grounds from the 14th century onwards.
Tickets available online or purchased at the Picture Gallery entrance. Open Monday, Wednesday–Saturday 11am-5pm and Sunday 2pm-5pm.
