Rahima Gambo: Alternative Central Area Locations

13 June - 8 September 2024
Free to all

Artist confronts the personal history and contemporary politics of city development.

As an infant, Rahima Gambo relocated to Abuja, a so-called planned city in its early stage of development. In Alternative Central Area Locations, she delves into her diasporic bond with the city, investigating themes of childhood, urban planning and migration.

Print, video, sculpture and sound works are accompanied by collections of sketches, aerial views, legislative plans and corporate language projected onto screens made from rough industrial materials. The artist is also drawing connections between ongoing building developments in London, specifically development projects adjacent to Gasworks.
