Jo Lathwood: Making Up

20 January - 3 March 2024

A new commission by The Lowry offers a unique opportunity to witness a contemporary artist work through their creative process.

From January 2024, Jo Lathwood will spend four weeks at The Lowry crafting a site-specific installation. Visitors will be able to witness her daily work in person or via CCTV during gallery opening hours, later seeing the installation take form by way of a circular rotating platform and raised boardwalk made from recycled timber. The audience will eventually be invited to make a simple journey, becoming part of a circular system.

Inspired by the higgledy-piggledy landscapes of Salford and Manchester, Making Up reflects on the railways, roads and canals of our past while pointing towards a potential sustainable future.
