Witness David Hockney's intimate portraits as the 5-star exhibition returns to the National Portrait Gallery.
A revival of the acclaimed David Hockney: Drawing from Life exhibition, initially shown for a brief 20 days before closure due to Covid in March 2020. Spanning six decades, the show focuses on Hockney's intimate portraits of five sitters: his mother, Celia Birtwell, Gregory Evans, Maurice Payne, and himself.
Hockney's close relationship with his subjects allows for diverse artistic approaches, from traditional mediums such as pencil and ink, to the iPad. The 2023 update introduces over thirty new life-painted portraits, depicting friends and visitors to Hockney's Normandy studio from 2021 to 2022, offering a fresh perspective on his evolving artistic journey.
