Exhibition

茶, चाय, Tea (Chá, Chai, Tea)

7 October 2023 - 7 July 2024
10am - 5.30pm
Free to all

A free exhibition exploring the history and enduring significance of tea across the world.

What's in a cup of tea? 茶, चाय, Tea (Chá, Chai, Tea) brings together a multitude of voices to explore the world's most beloved brew. From its origins in China, to how tea is produced and consumed today, discover how the story of Britain’s favourite beverage is far more complex, emotional and international than we think.

Tea has inspired artistic expression, cultural customs and national identities. But it’s global spread and popularisation is also connected to imperialism and colonial violence.

Enjoyed by billions of people, alone or together, with milk or cinnamon or salted butter – find out the complex history and myriad of meanings in how we consume tea today.
