Contemporary artist Julianknxx challenges dominant perspectives on African art, exploring themes of identity, history, and culture.
Sierra Leonian poet, artist, and filmmaker Julianknxx challenges prevalent views on African art, history, and culture, examining inheritance, loss and belonging through the lens of the artist’s personal history. Crossing the boundaries of the written word, music and visual art and featuring choirs from across Europe, Julianknxx’s work reflects the Black experience of self-definition, acting as a platform for resistance and a new understanding of being both within and between places. Echoing philosopher Édouard Glissant's ideas about identity, embodiment and multiplicity, Chorus in Rememory of Flight transforms the Curve Gallery into a shared space for communication and collaboration.
