Discover the Bloomsbury group's impact on fashion, merging historic themes and artefacts with contemporary design.
Charleston's new space in Lewes hosts their inaugural exhibition exploring the Bloomsbury group's dynamic relationship to – and influence on – fashion. Featuring historic attire, contemporary designs, and personal items of members such as Virginia Woolf and Lady Ottoline Morrell, Bring No Clothes: Bloomsbury and Fashion intertwines clothing with the bohemians lives. Vanessa Bell's handmade clothing is featured, as is Woolf’s love of clothing yet disdain for fashion. Curator Charlie Porter also explores themes of queerness through clothing displays of items worn by Duncan Grant, E.M. Forster, and John Maynard Keynes. This multi-layered experience features catwalk fashion from Comme des Garçons, Dior and more.
Please note the National Art Pass offer only applies to Charleston in Firle, and not to Charleston's new location in Lewes, which opened in September 2023.
