Video and multimedia artist revisits a haunting Thai Cold War-era myth.
In the Taiwanese ‘ghost cinema’ myth, ghosts hire humans to run an outdoor film screening. This curious story emerged in response to the US occupation of the country during the Cold War. Contemporary artist Korakrit Arunanondchai returns to this haunting tale to create an evocative film installation at the MAC to weave together themes of possession, dependency and care.
Shot in Chiang Rai and Udon Thani, the film follows a youth soccer team trapped in a cave and features a diverse range of characters, from spirit mediums, monks, scientists, American military and technology entrepreneurs.
Viewer discretion is advised: this video may trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy and contains scenes showing nudity.
