Flock to see this celebration of Birds of America, a book comprising large-scale and beautifully detailed ornithological illustrations by John James Audubon (1785-1851).
Epic in both physical size, with the book measuring almost 1 metre in height, and ambition, Audubon’s attempt to paint every bird species in North America took almost 12 years to complete.
Showcasing 46 prints from the book – first published in Edinburgh – and accompanied by letters, manuscripts, audio and films, the exhibition explores the book’s historical context and also considers what the future holds for our own country’s bird population.
