Painted Love: Renaissance Portraits
Explore how portraiture played a major role in the traditions and processes surrounding marriage in Renaissance-era Europe.
Inspired by a long term loan of Northern Renaissance portraits from the Schroder collection, this selection of paintings give an insight into the union of marriage during the Renaissance period. Both formal and personal elements of the celebration of matrimony are captured in the portraits.
The exhibition also includes items related to courtship and marriage, from love letters and rings to gifts and commemorative tableware.
