Join artists and educators Alison Phipps and Tawona Sitholé in this creative poetry writing workshop inspired by our latest exhibition, Lessons of the Hour, which explores the life and work of American abolitionist Frederick Douglass and the wider themes of Black history, the transatlantic slave trade and its links to Perthshire, Scotland
Alison and Tawona will guide you through a range of exercises aimed at igniting creativity using the objects, themes and descriptions of the exhibition and how they resonate with people’s lives.
No matter what level of poetry or language you have, all are welcome to take part.
Dr Tawona Sitholé is a poet, playwright, storyteller, and musician and is currently the artist-in-residence and lecturer with the UNESCO Chair in Refugee Integration through Languages and the Arts at the University of Glasgow.
Professor Alison Phipps is UNESCO Chair for Refugee Integration through Education, Languages and Arts; Professor of Languages and Intercultural Studies at the University of Glasgow; and Chair of New Scots Refugee Integration Strategy.
