A Masterclass in Glassblowing with E&M Glass
Step into the heat and drama of the glassblowing studio as E&M Glass, one of Britain's leading second generation glassmaking studios, brings the ancient craft of glassblowing to Canwood Gallery.
Based on the Welsh, Cheshire border and drawing on more than 40 years of family expertise, E&M Glass creates elegant vessels, sculptural forms and contemporary glass artworks that capture the beauty and unpredictability of molten glass. During this exclusive one hour demonstration, visitors will witness first-hand the remarkable transformation of glowing molten glass into exquisite handcrafted pieces.
This is a rare opportunity to experience traditional glassblowing at close quarters, watching master craftspeople shape, blow, stretch and refine molten glass using techniques that have remained largely unchanged for centuries. The extraordinary skill and theatrical nature of the process make for an unforgettable experience.
Tickets are £20 per person and can be booked via Eventbrite. With just five demonstrations each day, at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm on both Saturday 15 August and Sunday 16 August 2026, places are limited and advance booking is essential. Simply choose your preferred session when purchasing your ticket.
The demonstration forms part of Through the Glass Lens, our summer exhibition running from 23 July to 16 August 2026. Bringing together photographers from Hay Camera Club and contemporary glass artists, the exhibition explores the interplay of light, memory and perception through two distinct but complementary art forms.
Exclusive Visitor Benefit
Guests attending the glassblowing demonstration will receive an exclusive 5% discount on any E&M Glass purchase made during their visit to the gallery. Whether you are an established collector or looking for a unique handcrafted piece, this is a wonderful opportunity to acquire exceptional contemporary glass directly from the makers while enjoying a special exhibition visitor benefit.
Refreshments are not included in the ticket price. However, our on site café serves a selection of hot and cold drinks and light refreshments throughout the day. Visitors wishing to make a full day of their visit may also pre order one of our popular picnics.
