Once a centre for telecommunications The Exchange building offers a fitting and historic setting for this new collaboration. PK Porthcurno’s award-winning engagement team use creativity, science and engineering to explore themes of communications and connectedness based on their own exhibitions and collections. This summer, they bring this into the heart of Penzance, with a series of hands-on, accessible, family friendly workshops across four Wednesday afternoons.
WED 5 AUGMECHANICAL MESSENGERS: CARDBOARD AUTOMATA WORKSHOP
Join PK Porthcurno’s Learning Facilitator and artist, Mae Voogd, to explore cranks and levers in this creative engineering workshop. Build a flying messenger pigeon automaton, watch it come to life and write a secret message scroll for it to carry.

WED 12 AUGDESIGNER BOT: BUILD A ROBOT TO KEEP THE INTERNET WORKING*
Build and design a model seabed robot to look after the world’s communication cables. Learn how to automate it and find out more about how the internet works. This workshop is led by PK Porthcurno’s Learning Facilitator Science, Paul Tyreman.

WED 19 AUGMORE THAN WORDS: TUNNEL BOOK WORKSHOP
Ever wanted to step inside a story? In this workshop you can build your very own Tunnel Book- a magical, layered paper world. Explore paper engineering, hidden layers, and lots of imagination with PK Porthcurno’s Learning Facilitator and artist, Mae Voogd.

A fun, hands-on workshop exploring communication through puppetry led by PK Porthcurno’s Learning Facilitator and puppet maker, Mae Voogd. Inspired by objects from PK Porthcurno Museum collections, you’ll create your own unique puppet using recycled craft materials.
