A live recording of Instant Classics, where hosts Mary Beard and Charlotte Higgins uncover what life was like in Roman London
Vespucci in collaboration with the City of London Corporation and the Culture Mile Business Improvement District presents the first live recording of Instant Classics, where hosts Mary Beard and Charlotte Higgins uncover what life was like in Roman London. What did a typical evening out look like for Roman Londoners? Cheering gladiators? Gossiping in the baths? Worshipping mysterious gods? We’ll explore it all within the remains of London’s Roman Amphitheatre at Guildhall Art Gallery in the Culture Mile, dating back to the first century CE.
Launched at #3 in the UK podcast charts, the video podcast connects ancient myths, politics, and philosophy to contemporary life - from Greek democracy to Roman emperors and their modern parallels. With humor and sharp debate, world renowned Classicist Mary Beard and chief cultural writer of The Guardian Charlotte Higgins, examine how the ancient world still shapes today’s headlines, language, and culture. Ancient stories. Modern twists. No Classics degree required.
