Join local artist Nicola Burrell for a fun and active full day creative experience in our Urban Sketching and 3D Workshop with Nicola Burrell!
Nicola Burrell is known for her urban drawings, ‘built up’ paintings and her cardboard creations.
Morning Session
You will first explore buildings and street scenes while learning the art skills of composition and texture.
During this part of the session, Nicola will guide you around town to draw and learn the basic skills and things to look for when drawing cityscapes and buildings.
Basic mark making and composition will also be covered including a choice of materials.
Nicola will show you how she finds dramatic perspective in a subject and will show how to accurately set up a composition by measuring and getting the angles correct with a pencil.
You will also have the chance to look at light, shade, textures, materials and details.
Afternoon Session
After lunch, you will transform your drawings into 3D cardboard constructions!
Your drawings will be photocopied, cut up and collaged into more fantastical architectural speculations.
We will then turn these ideas into cardboard constructions. Cardboard will be used to make raised artwork models. Various techniques will be shown to show texture and composition.
Basic materials provided. This workshop is suitable for ages 16+.
Please wear comfortable footwear and dress for the weather. In the event of adverse weather we will stay indoors and display landmarks on screen or work from a different location in the building where there are views of the city.
