Join Emma Goldsmith and find about how French couture travelled North.
The story of Fenwick begins in Yorkshire with John James Fenwick, born in 1846. Trained as a tailor, his talent and drive soon take him to Newcastle, where he opens his own shop on Northumberland Street. From these humble beginnings grows a department store empire that changes fashion retail in the North East, London and beyond.
A true pioneer, Fenwick introduces French couture to Britain, bringing Parisian style to Newcastle long before luxury fashion is widely available outside London. Today, the business remains proudly family-owned, a lasting symbol of innovation, craftsmanship and ambition.
Join us for this in conversation with Emma Goldsmith to hear how Fenwick’s story unfolds and why his legacy still matters today.
