Living history telling the dramatic events in August 1842 that lead to unrest and the 'Plug Riots' in Halifax.
Spend the day learning about the events of the summer of 1842. See how the unrest in the industrial heartlands of the West Midlands and South Pennine region led to civil action. Protestors from the Potteries, Lancashire and West Yorkshire converged in Halifax in an attempt to drive changes in working conditions in mills and mines. Linked to the Chartist movement but driven as much by a need for change on many levels this is often compared to the Peterloo Massacre in 1819. Living history and children's activities help to bring our social history alive.
