Discover the bold, tactile world of linocut in this hands-on workshop with London based printmaker Cally Conway.
The Workshop
Discover the bold, tactile world of linocut in this hands-on workshop. You’ll learn how to create a striking one-colour print from start to finish - beginning with transferring your design, then carving textures and marks into lino, and finally inking and printing your block by hand (no press required).
Feeling confident? You’ll also have the option to explore a second layer and experiment with two-colour printing.
Inspired by nature, your designs can draw directly from the seasonal beauty of Ditchling’s Dye Garden or from natural imagery you bring along.
You’ll leave with your own finished prints - and a list of recommended tools and suppliers so you can keep creating at home.
Tickets include lunch.
The Workshop Leader
Cally Conway is a London based printmaker, working predominately in the medium of linocut and collage. Her prints focus on themes such as folklore, nature, and myths, and the symbolism contained within flora and fauna. She is drawn to celestial events and their interpretation in ancient cultures, along with medieval texts such as herbals and illuminated manuscripts.
Cally’s work ranges from personal print projects to fabric and wallpaper designs, and book cover illustrations. She has a keen interest in traditional crafts and the applied arts such as tapestry and historical costume embroidery. These influences underpin her image making and use of pattern and detail in her work.
