A creative writing workshop exploring heritage buildings and the ghost story genre.
In this creative writing workshop, run by Dr Jack McGowan and Dr Lucy Arnold of the University of Worcester, we will explore how heritage spaces and historical architecture have a unique relationship to the ghost story genre.
Through a series of writing exercises focusing on our physical presence in the space of The Commandery, participants will produce work which responds to this historical setting, writing a new chapter in The Commandery's history and developing new ways of articulating our relationships to the historical past.
This workshop is for ages 18+ due to the nature of the material.
Please bring whatever writing equipment you prefer to work with.
‘Phantom Narratives’ is one part of ‘Can These Stones Speak?’, a research project investigating the interactions between material history and heritage architecture and literature in generating new understandings of the past, and looking to establish innovative modes of practice in the education, culture and heritage sectors capable of generating new and diverse approaches to historical knowledge and literacy, in Worcester and beyond.
