RSN Tutor, Sarah de Rousset-Hall will teach you all of the techniques you need to know to complete the kit.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the completion of the awe-inspiring Overlord Embroidery stitched by the RSN from 1968 to 1974.
To celebrate, the RSN will be teaching a Dove of Peace class at the museum.
The Dove design uses Appliqué techniques and some of the stitches used to create the Overlord Embroidery. The design is worked onto a dark blue Irish linen, while the bird is Appliquéd in an ivory silk satin.
On the day, RSN Tutor, Sarah de Rousset-Hall will teach you all of the techniques you need to know to complete the kit including: Appliqué, Bayeux Stitch, Couching (thread and Japanese passing), Fishbone Stitch and Stem Stitch.
This class is suitable for all levels and your kit will include everything you require to complete the project after the class. You may like to bring your own magnifiers but you will be able to borrow ring frames and scissors on the day.
The Overlord Embroidery tells the story of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy in 34 extraordinary hand-stitched panels with a total length of 83 metres. It was stitched by the RSN using more than 50 different materials including actual uniforms.
The class is £150, you can book through the Royal School of Needlework website here
