The Wellcome Collection's Lou Brook will explore the Victorian approach to death.
Join us for the latest event in a programme to accompany our current exhibition 'Hidden Histories of Keats House'. These events expand upon the themes explored in the exhibition, as well as the context and history of 19th- and 20th-century Britain. The theme of death plays a major part in the history of Keats House. The Wellcome Collection's Lou Brook will explore the Victorian approach to death, with its many rules and regulations, and how they may have impacted those who followed them (and those who couldn’t).
Lou is a museum worker and researcher who works to provide comfortable spaces to discuss the uncomfortable. In the past, she has held 'Conversations about Death', a discussion based workshop designed to use museum spaces as a focal point for discussing death, grief and customs surrounding funeral practices. She has also held talks about Victorian mourning customs, and explored other 'taboo' topics with the aim of demystifying these subjects and opening up the groundwork for people to talk about them on their own.
