We're taking part in the Heritage Open Days Festival for another year with FREE Guided Station Tours!
Step back in time at Crofton Beam Engines for FREE and explore this hidden gem in Wiltshire's history.
Though the Station will not be in steam, visitors have the opportunity to join a one hour tour throughout the Station, led by dedicated knowledgeable volunteers, to learn the fascinating history and engineering of the site.
Throughout the day we will be running children's crafts in the Side Boiler House following this years theme of Transport, Networks and Connections. Create lolly stick pictures linked to the Stations long transport history including canal boats, trucks, trains and helicopters! Free though donations are appreciated.
Built between 1807 and 1809, the Pumping Station supplied water to the highest point of the Kennet & Avon Canal which links London and Bristol. It is a rare survivor of the Industrial Revolution and has just finished undergoing National Lottery Heritage Fund supported conservation work and the development of the ongoing community engagement project. The Station houses the oldest working Beam Engine in the world, still capable of carrying out its original task in its original location.
We encourage visitors to make use of our picnic benches on the grounds (no alcohol is allowed on site). There will be no refreshments available on site.
