Urban Sprawl: Building an ancient city

13 - 24 August 2024
Free to all

Put on your civic planner hat and help us build an ancient city…

Rome wasn't built in a day, but how much can you build in two weeks?

This summer, we’re transforming the Cast Gallery into a Roman city, and we need your help. Drop into the Museum and make your mark on our ancient landscape by creating your own building. You can even come multiple times and watch how the city builds up over time.

How will you contribute to our growing city? Will you add a theatre? A temple? A sewer system? Or something else entirely? And what do your citizens need in order to thrive in your city? Ponder all that and more as you craft our cityscape.

No construction experience necessary.

This event is part of Summer at the Museums.

Just drop in, no need to book.

  • The Cast Gallery is on the first floor.

  • Unfortunately, our lift is currently our of order which means we are unable to provide step-free access at this time. We hope to be able to restore lift access in mid-August. If you require step-free access please contact us ahead of time so we can confirm whether the lift has been fixed.

  • This event is primarily based on the floor, but there are chairs available.

  • Find out more about Museum Access.

  • Please contact us on 01223 330402 or email if you have any questions or concerns about accessibility.
