Our expert weaver will guide you in this ancient craft to create a small round willow basket with a simple trac border.
Basket weaving techniques have been used for thousands of years and willow artefacts, including eel traps, have been found in the ancient river channel at Must Farm. This workshop will use willow to make a small round basket with a simple trac border. You will be guided to create a completed basket to take home at the end of the day.
Our expert weaver has been working with willow for over 15 years, and won the Basketmaker of the Year Award 2017 from the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers. Numbers for this workshop are limited, so there is lots of opportunity for individual guidance.
Suitable for complete beginners, working with willow does require reasonable strength and dexterity in both hands. If you would like to discuss any access requirements before booking this workshop, please contact the Museum on 01733 864663.
All tools and materials will be supplied, and lunch is included.
