Guided Walk - Achtercairn Archaeology Trail

1 - 29 June 2024
1.30pm - 3.30pm
Free to all

A guided walk taking us past the remains of Roundhouses and many other features including wildlife and beautiful scenery.

People have been farming in the Achtercairn area, above Gairloch Museum, for nearly 5000 years. In prehistoric times communities built roundhouses with walls of stone and turf and roofs of wood and thatch. The ruins of these roundhouses, built by Bronze and Iron Age farmers, can still be seen in the landscape as low circles of collapsed stonework.

Your guide will take you on this trail of rough paths (requiring sturdy footwear and a good level of general fitness), sharing the results of recent archaeological digs and sharing other points of interest. The walk is about two miles long and will last roughly 2 hours.
