Wendy's talk will focus on developments in wallpaper design and production during the nineteenth century and will consider what the Cowtan order books tell us about how people were decorating their homes, including the use of wallpapers by William Morris and his contemporaries in the broader context of the nineteenth century interior.
Dr Wendy Andrews is an architectural historian and tutor for the University of Cambridge's Building History master's course in the Faculty of Architecture. An expert in innovations in wallpaper design, materials and manufacture between 1824-1938, as revealed through her doctoral research on the V&A's Cowtan & Sons Order Books,Wendy is a committee member of the Wallpaper History Society, and writes and lectures on wallpaper history. Prior to her academic career, Wendy was an adviser on policy and advocacy for cultural organisations including Arts Council England, National Lottery Heritage Fund and the National Trust.
