Join experienced tutor and well-known equine artist Nichola Eddery for a drawing day in Palace House inspired by the work of George Stubbs ARA (1724 - 1806).
2024 marks the 300th anniversary of Stubb's birth. This workshop is part of a programme of events by the National Horseracing Museum's celebrating the work of George Stubbs this year.
Nichola is a classically trained, professional, and exhibiting artist who studied for several years at renowned ateliers in Italy, France, and America to learn traditional methods that originate from the Renaissance masters. Nichola invites you to learn how to draw the horse through her unique method; the day will involve learning the fundamental principles of drawing: line, shape, proportion, perspective, light theory, value, and shading. In the morning, you will learn the envelope and block-in stages to capture proportion, likeness and movement. After lunch, you will learn about light theory and how to capture the horse’s anatomical structure through shading. This intense masterclass will help you understand these concepts and enable you to achieve a developed horse drawing whilst capturing Stubb’s style.
Suitable for beginners and more experienced artists, you will enjoy mastering Nichola’s step-by-step approach to drawing the horse from the incredible paintings by Stubbs.
All materials provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own sketchbooks.
Workshop participants are welcome to add a light lunch in the Tack Room restaurant to their workshop ticket. Light lunch consists of an open sandwich or generous salad or toastie and small house salad with a hot or cold non-alcoholic drink for £17.00 including gratuity.
