Hear all about the creation of a new virtual museum, with no walls or shelving, that celebrates a sense of place, and works with local communities to encourage people to explore Scotland’s historic coal belt stretching from Ayrshire to Fife.

The project takes inspiration from the former Landscape Legacies of Coal mobile phone app which enabled users to follow a series of co-produced heritage walks, primarily across Stirling and Clackmannanshire, that narrated the story of Scottish coal through the rich and extensive medium of landscape.

The event includes guest speakers. Dennis Canavan, who represented mining communities in Parliament as MP for West Stirlingshire (1974-83) then MP for Falkirk West (1983-2000) then MSP for Falkirk West (1999-2007), will launch the project. Author Guthrie Hutton will talk about the mining landscapes he encountered during the research for his county-based series of mining books.

The project team will also offer a series of short presentations about the eco-museum, its backstory, and the creation of the new collection of ‘landscape journeys’ followed by opportunity to chat over tea/coffee and local home baking.

There is an additional opportunity to explore the Lady Victoria Landscape at 11am and 11.30am (numbers are limited please book separately).
