Part 1 : Discover & Find Out

This will introduce our Arts Award activity booklet to the group, allow time to read over instructions and be a chance to ask questions to the session facilitator.

Sessions have an education space as a ‘base’ here at the Museum. An Arts Award facilitator is in attendance the entire time.

The activities are completed within an Arts Award booklet, which is given during the Part 1 session. Additional artwork can be added to this. The booklets have been created to ensure all the assessment objectives for the Award are covered fully.

Aside from an introduction and ending to the group, the sessions run at the pace of each individual family group: self-led time to look around the Museum and Gallery, use the art resources in the Education room and speak to the facilitator for support and to share work.

Belongings can be left in the Education room at your own discretion, and you are welcome to bring food and drinks to have whilst you sit and work. No food or drink however should be taken into the Museum galleries.

Once both sessions have been attended, the booklet (and any supporting work) is handed in to be marked. The facilitator will ensure they look at each participant’s booklet during the Part 2 session before they leave. Extra time can be given afterwards on request or, if booking across different weekends, time can be spent at home in-between Part 1 and Part 2.

Each young person will receive a certificate along with their Arts Award booklet in the post. Please allow time for this to happen as marking periods will be at the end of August and the end of November. You will be notified by email when certificates are on their way.
