In the woods above the River Tamar nestles Cotehele, built by the Edgcumbes in Tudor times and adorned with tapestries, textiles, arms and armour, pewter, brass and old oak furniture.

Little has changed over the centuries, and a visit is a magical experience. Outside, there are formally planted terraces, the Valley Garden, complete with medieval stewpond and dovecote, and a new orchard, planted at the top of the estate, which features local varieties of apple. Cotehele Quay is the home of the restored Tamar sailing barge 'Shamrock' and gateway to a wider estate. There is also Cotehele Gallery which promotes exclusively work by professional artists and craft makers from the West Country.
