Examining two pioneering women photographers who worked a century apart
Francesca Woodman and Julia Margaret Cameron, two influential women photographers from different eras, each redefined portraiture beyond mere representation. Cameron, active in the 1860s in the UK and Sri Lanka, and Woodman, in the 1970s in America and Italy, both used creativity to convey beauty, symbolism, and storytelling, as shown in over 160 photographic prints.
The exhibition explores their careers a century apart, offering fresh perspectives on their ground-breaking contributions to photographic portraiture in the 19th and 20th centuries. It highlights their imaginative approaches, transcending the conventional purpose of capturing portraits and thus creating a new way of seeing.
