East meets West is a rare opportunity to see an exhibition of artworks from the private collection of the artist, Wayne Warren, alongside paintings from Bury’s Permanent Collection which are not often on public display.
The exhibition will be a visual journey, starting with contemporary artworks created in China, Japan, and Australia. Wayne Warren developed his collection from living artists he met during his trips to the far east where he exhibited his own works regularly between 2010 and 2018. The artworks investigate themes of nationality and identity, the human body, aspiration, and commercialism.
Moving to Europe, depictions of landscape are explored and feature paintings by JWM Turner and Victor Pasmore from Bury Art Museum’s Collection. Culminating in with a variety of work from the last hundred years, dominated by British artists, through groups linked to the St. Ives School, such as Patrick Heron, as well as Language Art, Street Art, and a strong presence of work by young female artists, including Tracey Emin.
