Lynda Benglis: Recent Sculptures

Distinctive bronze sculptures play with clay and technology

Lynda Benglis is an artist celebrated for pushing the boundaries of painting and sculpture. Alongside Turner Contemporary’s exhibition Beyond Form: Lines of Abstraction 1950–1970, a display of three recent sculptures from Benglis probes the material and conceptual ideas of knots through an experimental approach.

Benglis begins by creating clay models, which she then transforms with digital technology before creating the sculptures in polished bronze. The reflective surfaces reference the fluidity of liquid forms, while her intricate process allows the works to retain the intimate touch of the artist’s hand.
