Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life


Founded to maintain and celebrate Mid Devon’s history in a post-war world, Tiverton Museum traces the lives of people in Mid Devon over hundreds of years.

The museum houses an eclectic collection of objects and artefacts exploring everything pertaining to life in Mid Devon, from transport, local industry and agriculture to domestic life. Highlights include local bicycles, costume, lace making materials, farm waggons and the ‘Tivvy Bumper’ GWR steam engine.

There is a lively programme of exhibitions and events year-round and the museum also caters for families and young children with a range of trails and quizzes to accompany your visit. Exhibits explore the social and economic history of the region, celebrating Mid Devon’s achievements.

Opening times

Thursday - Saturday: 11am - 4pm

We strongly recommend pre-booking for a half hour time slot. Please arrive within this time slot; you can then stay in the museum for as long as you like.

Your group must include no more than 6 people, including children, from one household or bubble.

We ask that you please wear a face covering during your visit.

A one-way system with clear signage is in place around the museum. Please follow this system and adhere to 2m social distancing measures.

Hand sanitiser is availbale throughout the museum.

We have an enhanced cleaning schedule in place to make sure you can enjoy the museum safely.

We have removed all movable play and interactive elements and the Tivvy Bumper cab will remain closed to reduce the risk of transmission.
