The refurbished museum, reopened in 2011, is home to collections celebrating the local area's long association with the sea.

Key features are a Victorian bathing machine, items from a 16th-century wreck, a Thomas Lawrence portrait, personal items belonging to naval hero Admiral Sir Edward Pellew and a painting by local marine artist Thomas Luny.
