The Gallery houses an important collection of paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and ceramics.

There are changing displays of works from the Gallery's permanent collection, as well as temporary exhibitions of contemporary art. Crafts from across many disciplines are also on sale.

Permanent collection

Over 550 items make up the permanent collection, with works by 19th- and 20th-century artists including Ivon Hitchens, Paul Nash, Edward Bawden, Duncan Grant, Vanessa Bell and John Piper. As well as paintings and drawings by Edward Burra, the gallery also holds a selection of his personal artefacts and letters.

Items from the collection are not on permanent display, but used in the Gallery's exhibitions.
