Among the highlights of the museum's art collection are two landscapes attributed to Jan van Huysum, Sickert's View of Port St Denis, and the Ealand Warwick Bequest from the 1960s.

There are many works with a Peterborough connection, including watercolours of Peterborough Cathedral by JMW Turner and David Cox. Portraits and views associated with the history of the building are on permanent display; other works are shown as part of exhibitions or can be viewed by appointment. Also on show are a Norman Cross, prisoner of war craftwork and artefacts from Roman Peterborough.
