York is home to the largest railway museum in the world.

Get up close to iconic locomotives and carriages, from record breakers to history makers. Explore the museum's magnificent royal trains, examine millions of artefacts belonging to the National Collection, see the replica of Stephenson's legendary Rocket and discover the world of high speed travel on the Japanese bullet train. There are also daily demonstrations and interactive exhibits.

To help us manage the number of people in the museum at one time, all visitors are now required to book a free admission ticket in advance to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit. You will also need to wear a face covering throughout the museum, keep a safe distance from other visitors and follow marked routes.
