Romantically situated on the shore of Loch Fyne, Inveraray Castle is the ancestral home of the Dukes of Argyll and the seat of the Clan Campbell.

Designed in the 1700s by Vanbrugh, the architect of Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard, the Castle was built by William Adam and Roger Morris.

It was architecturally in advance of its time, and presents a striking combination of Baroque, Palladian and Gothic styles.

The interior offers exquisite French tapestries, ornate furniture, and unrivalled hand-painted ceilings, as well as a dramatic Armoury Hall with displays of arms reflecting the Campbells' leading role in British history.

The Victorian Room is a tribute to the marriage between Queen Victoria's daughter HRH Princess Louise and the Marquess of Lorne, who subsequently became the 9th Duke.
