The collections are among the foremost resources in Scotland for academic teaching and research.

From an illuminated incunable in the Hunterian Library (Sp Coll Hunterian Bf.1.18)
Subject strengths include art, languages, literature, history and the history of law, science and medicine. Collections include Lectura super prima parte Infortiati, c 1400, ArtFunded 2004. Visitors are advised to contact Special Collections in advance to arrange consultation of material. Access to the Library is by visitor pass (application required).
