Housing a museum, exhibition galleries, a library and a café, this unique venue explores the rich past of Dunfermline, one of Scotland’s former ancient capitals.
Situated at the heart of the Heritage Quarter of Dunfermline in the Kingdom of Fife, Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries constitutes the town’s first large scale museum. Visitors can learn about the history of the area, from the stories of Dunfermline’s kings and queens to the effects of the World Wars on the local residents.
The museum’s collections are brought to life with fascinating stories retold through films, interviews and games, following six key themes: Royal Dunfermline, industry, leisure and recreation, transport, conflict and homes.
Opened in May 2017, the building also houses a local history Reading Room, a children’s library and a café with spectacular views over a landscaped garden, Dunfermline Abbey and the Heritage Quarter.
