Collections focus on archaeology, natural history, paintings, sculpture, glass and ceramics (especially Yorkshire pottery).

The permanent museum collections are housed in the award-winning River and Road Gallery, which tells the story of Doncaster and its region through the River Don and Great North Road routes. The first floor galleries house the museum's fine art collection and host a vibrant programme of temporary exhibitions. The museum also contains the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI) Regimental Museum.
