Croft Castle and Parkland
Herefordshire, HR6 9PW
A late 17th-century house with fine Georgian interiors, Croft Castle has been home to the Croft family for nearly 1,000 years.
The castle is surrounded 1,500 acres of woods, farm and parkland, within which visitors can find an Iron Age hill fort at Croft Ambrey. The interior features a number of 'atmosphere rooms', including the 18th-century Saloon, where visitors can listen to records and dance the Charleston.
Art we’ve helped buy at Croft Castle and Parkland
In 2002 Joan Hurst gifted objects to 19 museums, including a tapestry cushion by an unknown artist to Croft Castle. The cushion's design is composed of greens and blues, and is ornamented with fringes and tassels. It depicts an exterior scene with a castle in the background and two figures, perhaps a Lord and Lady, meeting in the foreground.
