Ceredigion Museum
Housed in an Edwardian theatre, Ceredigion Museum explores the Welsh county's heritage, culture and art through permanent and temporary exhibitions.
Established in Aberystwyth in 1982, the museum displays over 60,000 objects documenting Ceredigion's past, from the Neolithic period to the late 20th century. You can also discover more about the theatre in which Ceredigion Museum is housed, a beautiful three storey structure built in 1904, serving the community both as a venue for live performance, political gatherings, and later as a cinema.
Local history
A huge array of items are on display, some donated by local residents, including drawings, photographs, costumes, toys and games and covering themes such as dentistry, timekeeping, agriculture, social history and archaeology.
Victorian Welsh cottage
Step inside one of the highlights of the collection that illustrates the history of the local area. A reconstruction of a 19th century one-roomed Welsh cottage interior gives a taste of what is what like to live in Victorian times.
Take a tour of the town
Why not discover more about Aberystwyth’s fascinating past and the characters that shaped it? The Ceredigion's audio tour consists of a map and a series of stories relating to five Aberystwyth locations. Embarking from and concluding at the museum, you will take in Diva's Nails, The Boat Club, The Old College, St Paul's and The Promenade.
