Museum of the Year 2021 finalist

A vibrant modern gallery, CCA Derry - Londonderry presents an ambitious programme of contemporary art, focusing on emerging artists from Northern Ireland.

The gallery is known for championing experimental and thought-provoking contemporary art through commissioning new works of art, presenting solo and group exhibitions and running its own publishing programme. Previous exhibitions have touched on issues around the environment, Ireland’s plantation history, industrialisation and more. The gallery’s focus is on early career artists and has provided a platform for many Northern Irish artists to develop thriving careers.

A library, public programme, workshops and offsite and online activities also help serve the city community of Derry/Londonderry. During the coronavirus pandemic the gallery was celebrated for providing paid opportunities for local artists and delivering activity packs to school children in areas of social deprivation. In 2021 the gallery took their major exhibition URGENCIES to the streets, populating the city with art in unusual spots such as shopping centres and window displays.

The gallery is run by a small team of dedicated museum staff who work cross-border on the border of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Centre for Contemporary Art Derry/Londonderry was shortlisted for Museum of the Year 2021.
