Early collections range from Palaeolithic hand tools to the gravestone of 5th-century local chieftain, Votepor.

The museum, housed in the former bishop's palace, also displays local furniture, dressers and their china. Paintings include 17th- and 18th-century portraits and works by 20th-century artist Edward Morland Lewis, as well as topographical works.
