Set in an old school, Braintree Museum conserves and celebrates local history, focusing on the District’s industrial and cultural achievements and notable personalities.
Based in the former Manor Street School building, Braintree Museum celebrates and cares for the town’s history, particularly following its achievements and contributions to industry and creativity from the prehistoric era to the 21st century.
Explore collections dedicated to companies such as Crittall Windows, notable manufacturers of steel-framed windows, and the Courtauld and Warner textile firms. Other unique collections explore the celebrated naturalist John Ray, the First and Second World Wars, geology and fossils, photography, and art and ceramics.
A varied programme of exhibitions explores everything from art and textiles to science and local history, plus there are also regular events and community activities on offer. And why not step back in time through the museum’s Victorian classroom.
