Blackwell: The Arts and Crafts House in the Lake District, showcases original decorative features, furniture and design from the 20th century.
Designed by M H Baillie Scott as a holiday retreat for the wealthy Manchester brewery owner, Sir Edward Holt, Blackwell was furnished with objects by many of the leading arts and craft practicioners and studios. The house itself boasts array of unusual details such as leaf-shaped door handles, intricate stained glass and carved wooden panelling.
The gardens are also the work of an arts and crafts designer, Thomas Mawson, who used a series of terraces to achieve the very best views from the house over the lake towards the Coniston fells.
